Successful Energy Management at the Evangelisches Diakonissenhaus

40% less CO₂ by 2021 - it all starts with meters

At the Evangelisches Diakonissenhaus, energy data from over 380 meters across 58 buildings in 16 estates are continuously collected and analysed.

Since 2019, the Evangelisches Diakonissenhaus has implemented an energy management system according to DIN EN ISO 50001. Alongside the very high standards in energy-efficient construction and building renovation, detailed recording of consumption data, such as heating, electricity, and potable water, as well as major consumers like ventilation systems and compressed air plays a decisive role.

To identify long-term savings potential or detect deviations from normal operation, it is crucial to know the current consumption and rely on continuous data collection. These data allow the organisation to define energy-saving targets, derive efficiency measures, and evaluate their success.

The results at the Evangelisches Diakonissenhaus speak for themselves: by 2021 the CO2 emissions had been reduced by more than 40 percent , and heat energy consumption decreased by 9 percent.

Often, high energy use was caused by technical systems that were not optimally configured and therefore operated inefficiently. Thanks to real-time monitoring and analysis in the deZem DataSuite , such issues can be quickly identified through precise observation or automatic Alert management alarm management, saving energy and extending the service life of the equipment.

The "EnergyPlus" brochure documents the development of the energy management system within the organisation from its beginnings in 2015 up to 2020. It presents completed construction and renovation projects, shares key performance figures, and offers guidance for organisations facing similar challenges. The brochure also demonstrates that climate protection is achievable in the social and healthcare sectors.

About deZem

Since 2003, deZem has been developing and supplying hardware and software to network and analyse sensor data from many heterogeneous sources - worldwide with projects in Europe, America and Asia. Originally started in the field of energy controlling, we have expanded our range of products and services over the years into a comprehensive system for IoT data management, from industrial analytics to plant and process monitoring to technical building management. Because the basic idea is the same: to create a scalable platform for collecting and analysing IoT data.
